— Dave in Texas Happy post-Thanksgiving all you birds stuffed full of bird. I hope you ate yourself into an L-tryptophan coma (I'm not looking that up, spelling is for sissies) and most important of all, you had pie.
Everybody likes pie.
Top ten teams are like the number 2 guy in charge of Al-Qaeda, they don't seem to last very long.

Alabama (2) vs. Auburn, 3:30pm
Georgia (3) vs. Georgia Tech, noon
Florida (4) vs. Florida St. (10), 3:30pm
Oregon (5) vs. Oregon State (15), 3pm
Kansas State (6), idle
Stanford (
vs. UCLA (17), 6:30pm
Texas A&M (9) against Missouri, 7pm

Have some more pie. What could it hurt at this point?

Since the last thread was getting kinda stale, here's a new one to gnaw on.
Scientists Working on a Very Critical Project!
To make bacon taste better. They have now sequenced the entire DNA of a female pig:
With the full genome, breeders will now be able to pinpoint the specific genes behind those traits. They will take "pigs that have at least one copy of the favorable version [of a gene] and use that pig to breed the next generation," says Jack C.M. Dekkers, a professor of animal breeding and genetics at Iowa State University in Ames. Some researchers may even use the information to do genetic modification of pigs.
...Tastier pork could certainly be an outcome of this research, too, Schook and Dekkers say. What makes a pig tasty, however, is subject to debate and cultural preference. In some parts of Asia, Schook notes, breeders value fat content more than American breeders do.
Tenderness and meat color are other targets for breeders hoping to improve the pork on our plates.
He who controls the pork controls the universe.
Why Our Carriers Should Be Removed from the Gulf
Several months ago, I asked a retired admiral what sign the United States could give that its patience had truly worn thin with Iran. "Remove the carriers from the Persian Gulf," he responded. At first, that struck me as dumb: The Iranians would depict the American withdrawal as another sign that the United States was weak and in retreat. "Don't worry," he assured me. "Any Revolutionary Guardsmen worth his weight would understand."
I'm intrigued and will seek out this Okains. Sounds like it's time for the Pollock lovers to step up their game.

Howdy morons! Hope y'all had a nice Thanksgiving. I'm fighting through a multiple turkey sandwich induced coma to bring you the ONT tonight so bear with me here.
Well the Red Dawn remake has finally hit theaters and is on track to pull in $20M by Sunday (cost $65M to make). I don't think I'll be seeing it, especially since they changed the bad guys to the Norks. May as well have been Smurfs. Although in real life, apparently the Norks are going to try to live up to their Red Dawn remake cred by trying to have a successful long range ballistic missile test.

— DrewM Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood President declared himself a de facto dictator today.
Boy, no one saw this coming. Well if by "no one" you mean everyone who isn't a liberal foreign policy "expert".
A decree by Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi granting himself extensive new powers triggered dueling demonstrations Friday by supporters and opponents....
Muslim Brotherhood officials said the measures were necessary to ensure the countryÂ’s full and healthy return to democracy.
“This level of immunity for presidential decrees is indeed unprecedented, but it is necessary, and it is controlled by a time frame” that ends with the election of a new parliament, said Gehad el-Haddad, a senior Muslim Brotherhood adviser. “This constitutional declaration cements the way forward in terms of time frame and powers.”
But the decision raised immediate concerns among many liberal activists who had already been worried that Morsi had taken a distinctly authoritarian air in the three months since he swept out the top ranks of the military and sidelined what had long been a powerful independent institution in Egypt. EgyptÂ’s short-lived parliament was dismissed by the countryÂ’s high court shortly before Morsi took power, so legislative powers also are concentrated under the president. Taking the courts out of the equation means there will be no judicial review of MorsiÂ’s decisions.
Ah yes, "we must have authoritarian rule to allow for freedom and democracy"-Stuff Jefferson Said, The Arabic Edition.
Fearless prediction: This latest step will be met with calls for greater aid and dialogue from the foreign policy grandees who not long ago sneered at people who warned that the Brotherhood would did this exact sort of thing.
One man, one vote, one time. Hope the Egyptian's enjoyed it while it lasted.
Reminder: Always trust content from DrewM. and Ace of Spades HQ. From my post the day Morsi won the presidency.
The military is trying to hold sway over things as long as they can and try and co-opt the Brotherhood. The reality is, revolutionary movements like the Brotherhood don't see elections as a charge to govern but an opportunity to increase power. Morsi will sound conciliatory and such but will leverage this victory to increase pressure on the military and to exercise greater control than whatever formal power he winds up [with].Lots of optimistic talk among the usual suspects on CNN...the Muslim Brotherhood will be different or something. Personally, I think they've stood for things for decades, it seems insanely naive to think that they will suddenly moderate in victory.

— DrewM Remember Lindsey "I Gotta Be Me And Disrespect The Tomb Of The Unknown Soldiers" Stone? Well now comes word that for some reason her employer doesn't want to have someone on their staff who is crass enough to do that and dumb enough to tell the world about it.
The gang at This Ain't Hell broke the original story and argue it's about more than one idiot who just has to be an idiot.
If there had been social media in the middle 70s, and a photo like this had been taken and spread around, it would have got guffaws and applause. Probably right up through the eighties, that photo would have elicited that response. The country had lost it’s way in the late sixties. People like John Kerry were heroes. Morals didn’t exist in the popular culture. Jimmy Carter awarded the folks who ran out on their responsibilities a pardon his first day in office. There were no consequences for bad acting. What happened to Lindsey Stone this week had nothing to do with “blind adoration of the military”, it had to do with a line being drawn in the sand of the culture war. It turns out that some Americans are tired of the “Occupy” generation. Their outrage over this picture has been building in the last several years.

— Dave in Texas They say abstinence makes the heart grow fonder. Or something like that. Whoever "they" are, nobody really knows who is them.
Cushing ME man gets a week in jail for smacking his estranged wife in the face with his pee pee. (Is it ME? I don't know, it's M-something. I don't send stuff to Maine)
Now I have to admit, the little girl in me is giggling for no reason other than this is from the "Bangor Daily News." I am a giggly leetle girl because that's stupid and funny.
The incident occurred in July in Warren when his wife of 39 years, who was estranged from him, stayed at his place. He offered her $20 for sex, and when she refused he took out his penis and struck her with it, according to the prosecutionÂ’s version of events to which he pleaded guilty.
I've often wondered if this could change a girl's mind from "no" to "YES". I mean the combo, first flashing a 20 at her, you know, to get her attention. Show her you are a serious businessman. And THEN, while in negotiations, rubbing your junk in her face.
Due diligence? Or just driving the price down?
Thank you, Fred E. Thomas for this valuable information. *crosses dick face-smacking off of the list of "romantic things*
Salute.
