[Update - Andy:] Not really worth its own post, but some guy named Jon Huntsman, who was apparently running for president as a Republican, appears to be dropping out of the race and endorsing ... drumroll ... Mitt Romney.

New York Giants at Green Bay Packers

There are barely any pics of Giants cheereleaders on google. I found this one, but it seemed a little mild-content-warning over-the-top.

Is a cheese-bra something?

The latter is a better sketch, more true than funny. The first one is very, very mildly funny. Not exactly breaking a lot of new ground on the Hu-mahn joke. more...

Governor Rick Perry & Rep. Mick Mulvaney Join the Inaugural Broadcast of ‘The Ben Howe Show’
— andy

As many of you know, our intrepid Head Ewok appears from time to time on our RedState buddy Ben Howe's Internet radio show.

Ben also has been working on getting a broadcast gig, and his efforts paid off in a show that debuts tonight. Listen in if you can.

If you havenÂ’t been keeping up, IÂ’ve been neck deep in a contest to get my own radio show on one of the largest radio stations in the southeast, WBT out of Charlotte, NC. You can see the stages of the contest here, here, & here. After much spamming of twitter and the gracious web real estate of RedState.com, the first day of my new show has finally arrived.

WellÂ…sort of. Actually believe it or not, the contest isnÂ’t over. The final stage of the contest was to have a committee choose the ultimate winner of the contest after the votes had been cast to determine the last two contestants. In order to remedy this, they decided to give me and the other finalist, Bobby DeMuro, a chance to show our stuff this month. We are each getting two shows in the month of January.

BobbyÂ’s first one was last week, mine is tonight.

And what a show it will be! IÂ’ll have none other than Governor Rick Perry on my show to discuss his campaign in South Carolina. We recorded it this morning and there were some minor connection issues, but I urge you to listen in.

Joining me live around 6:15 will be South Carolina superstar Congressman Mick Mulvaney to discuss our Social Security crisis and his endorsement of Governor Perry.

IÂ’ll also be discussing Solyndra, throwing money in holes, myths about the tax code, Climate Gate 2 and much more.

If youÂ’re on twitter and want to shout out to me, use the hashtag #TBHS. If you want to call in, just dial 704.570.1110!

Listen to the show online here from 6-9 pm EST tonight.

Congratulations to the 49ers for overcoming Drew Brees and Alex Smith to prevail over the Saints! And Tom Brady was Tom Brady last night. Tim Tebow was, unfortunately, mortal.

And now for your money shot:

Sunday Book Thread
— Monty

I made the mistake of taking some time off around the holidays, so the new year mainly brought an enormous backlog of work to catch up on. Thus any time I have for reading must be taken in brief snatches: ten minutes here, half an hour there. This kind of fragmented reading experience is made somewhat easier in this age of the e-reader; I take my (e-ink) Kindle with me where ever I go, so I can always read a few pages when I have a bit of free time.

My reading over the past couple of weeks has been dedicated mainly to clearing out my enormous backlog of bought-but-unread books. Currently I'm still scaling the mountain of Paul Rahe's Republics Ancient and Modern, but when that gets too heavy I go back to Vernor Vinge's Children of the Sky. I also bought Nelson and Winter's An Evolutionary Theory of Economic Change on the recommendation of a friend -- I've heard people mention this book favorably when compared to Mises' Human Action, so I'm anxious to get into it.

Barnes and Noble, pretty much the last man standing in the large bookseller space, has been experiencing some tough times lately. I hate to say it, but I'd be surprised to see them survive in their current form for more than a year or two. It's not just the technology changes either as customers move to on-demand digital entertainment -- it's B&N's lack of diversification. Amazon can make up any losses they incur in their book division by selling more blenders or hunting boots or canoes; B&N doesn't have that luxury. And B&N has a massive physical retail infrastructure to maintain that Amazon does not have. This is not necessarily a liability -- the world still has plenty of readers who prefer to handle, consider, and buy books in person -- but this market is getting smaller with every year that goes by.

On a lighter note, I have had a great response from Moron authors (and wives/husbands/friends of same) who have been sending me links to Moron-written stuff. Check out the links below, and if you decide to buy, use the special Ace O' Spades Amazon storefront, because then Ace can wet his beak a little bit at no extra cost to you. See below the fold for details.

Sunday Morning Non-Book Open Thread
— andy

If you didn't see the last 5 football minutes of the Saints-Niners game yesterday, you missed what may have been the most exciting end to a playoff game ever. On the other hand, I don't think anyone even saw the last 5 minutes of Broncos-Pats, which was over at halftime.

Texans-Ravens are up at 1pm EST today, followed by Giants-Packers at 4:30.

Yes, you can haz ONT now Moron Nation!

This is why math is pretty important in the real world. 6 Small Math Errors That Caused Huge Disasters.

When designing their newest hotel to be built in downtown Kansas City, the fine people at Hyatt Regency wanted all the bells and whistles in it. The architectural firm in charge of the building design came up with a series of aerial walkways suspended from the ceiling so that guests could people-watch from a heightened vantage point. All in all, it was a pretty nifty feature. Until it suddenly collapsed and killed more than a hundred people.

Of course, this list does not include SCOAMF's math disasters known as the budget, stimulus and jobs saved or pulled out of my ass. more...
