— Gabriel Malor Happy Thursday.
It is Pope Benedict's final day as pope. In the UK, bookies are taking bets on who will be the next pontiff.
The House is apparently ready to pass the Senate's expanded version of VAWA. Just two months ago, the House was saying "no way," and taking some pretty significant lumps for letting VAWA to expire. Apparently, House GOP's thinking has changed, though I haven't heard the reason for it. No doubt they don't really want to talk about it.
There'll be a bit more drama in Congress over the sequester, but House GOP is standing firm for the moment and is even planning to keep the sequester cuts in the CR that's expected by the end of March (since there's no anticipation the Senate will get off its ass and approve a budget).

Tonight might be a good night to lock your doors and polish up the old family silver in .45 and .357.
If you're short, try here and ask about their overnight delivery options.

— Ace All because he reported the truth about the sequester -- a truth even Politico concedes to be true, that Obama hatched the scheme and the White House has been lying about it since -- and because he doesn't like being threatened.
Woodward's complaint is a bit more nuanced than claiming a "threat," though. He does see it as a "veiled threat." But the main thrust of his complaint is that while he, Bob Woodward, is immune to such threats, what about young reporters? When young reporters get yelled at by the White House for a half hour and told "you'll regret this," what do they do?
His suggestion is that more often than not they "tremble, tremble" and accede to the Chicago Thugs' wishes.
And for saying so, the guy who brought down Nixon is now being called senile, a rightwinger, a new David Mamet, etc.
Anyone who opposes this gangster administration must be destroyed.
The Gramsciite Left is too close to their goals now. They feel the creaking in America's beam, they can feel the ship about to burst in two. They want this so badly.

— Ace Remember we hear about dictators dying about three times as often as they actually die. But here's hoping.
The report claims this:
En contacto con CNN Chile el ex embajador afirmó que desde el 30 de diciembre pasado el presidente Chávez se declaró con muerte cerebral en Cuba...
Well, certainly there is a long history of covering up the deaths of tyrants for weeks and weeks.
Oops: I sight-guessed at the Spanish. It actually doesn't say he died on December 30th, of course, but that he's been brain dead since then, and four days ago he actually died.

— Ace Hm.
Wonderful.
Woodward, of course, claims Obama himself must not know about this and that he'd be scandalized if he knew his aides were pursuing a Do Not Dare Question Us strategy with reporters.
Because we all know Obama is so at ease when he's challenged.
Update: A "very senior" White House staffer, it's now said.
Video: At The Right Scoop.
More: Sexton traces this to the dispute over who came up with the sequester -- first the White House was intent on claiming Republicans proposed it, but then, when Woodward pointed out it had come straight from the White House, suddenly the media began claiming, in unison, it just didn't matter who'd come up with it.
Well the White House sure seems to think it matters.

— Ace And you guys said that learning French was useless.
Well here's a use, mecs -- I know what he's speaking is like first or second semester, tops. And he's got a script.
Did a single reporter with any ability in the language probe his self-proclaimed ability to "speak French"? Or is the tradition of padding resumes so accepted in the journalism community that they never batted an eye?

— Ace I don't watch this show, so I don't know if this is a good impression (and note well, this is not Lena Dunham, but a parodist, so you don't have to feel bad about checking out her yabbos), but it is pretty funny.
Or, I think it would be funny, if I watched the show.
I believe this is someone called Chelsea Davidson.
Two Quick Things: Archer got picked up for Season 5 by FX ("Phrasing!"), and Psych returns to the airwaves tonight at 10 pm on USA. Or 9pm. I don't know, I'm not your gee-darned TV Guide.

— Ace And men, for that matter.
So long as we mean by "feminist" what I think 85% of the country means by it.
