Prince of Wails: Charles Urges Environmental Movement to Follow Islamic Spiritual Principles
— Ace

Blowin' shit up? That has been proven to work, hasn't it?

As I was reading this, I wondered, "Hey, isn't the prince somehow officially the head of the Anglican church, or something?" Something like that, yeah.

Prince Charles yesterday urged the world to follow Islamic 'spiritual principles' in order to protect the environment.

In an hour-long speech, the heir to the throne argued that man's destruction of the world was contrary to the scriptures of all religions - but particularly those of Islam.

He said the current 'division' between man and nature had been caused not just by industrialisation, but also by our attitude to the environment - which goes against the grain of 'sacred traditions'.

He argued that man's destruction of the world was particularly contrary to Islam
Charles, who is a practising Christian and will become the head of the Church of England when he succeeds to the throne, spoke in depth about his own study of the Koran which, he said, tells its followers that there is 'no separation between man and nature' and says we must always live within our environment's limits.

What can you say.

It has long been known that Charles was, like other effeminate British semi-men, an Arabist, attracted, no doubt, to the Middle East's intoxicating blend of mysticism and fascism.

As I wrote a week or two ago: Britain is simply accommodating itself to the irreversible demographic fact that within 50 years or so they'll be a Muslim-majority country, owing to their own decision to stop having children of their own and instead import them from Pakistan, and they are hoping that if they show what great dhimmis they'll be permitted a little freedom and won't be slaughtered. Much.

Rumors, Rumors: Prince of Araby.

Gallup: Obama at 44%
Awesome: Obama's Kick Ass Action Movie Theme!

— Ace

48% disapproving.

But of course that's the right-wing Gallup. The left-leaning, fair and balanced Rasmussen has Obama at 46% approval, but then, they also have Obama at 53% disapproval, with 43% strongly disapproving.

Damn, it's gotta be time for another ABC poll to say he's at 54% approval.

Karl Rove: Say, Obama's rather like Jimmy Carter, isn't he?

When Barack Obama announced he was running for president in February 2007, Nathan Gonzales of the Rothenberg Political Report wrote "Obama's history of voting 'present'" in Springfield, Ill.—even on some of the most controversial and politically explosive issues . . . raises questions . . . Voting 'present' is one of the three options in the Illinois Legislature (along with 'yes' and 'no') but it's almost never an option for the occupant of the Oval Office."

Mr. Gonzales's words were prescient. Barack Obama may now be president, but at times he appears to be merely present. That has been the case with his response to the environmental catastrophe unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico. The president was late recognizing the disaster's magnitude, late in visiting the region, late in approving requests by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and late in feigning outrage. He has never offered an independent plan to stop the leak.

Mr. Obama also seems disinterested in hearing from experts about the spill. The White House's "Deep Water Horizon Response Timeline" doesn't list a single meeting between Mr. Obama and industry experts, though he did send Energy Secretary Steven Chu and others to Houston May 12 to meet with BP and others.

Yet while the president says his Noble Prize-winning energy secretary has been "examining every contingency," Mr. Chu was clueless about BP's plans to install a cap over the well to funnel oil to a vessel on the surface. As the New York Times reported last Saturday, "After the cap was successfully placed, Mr. Chu wondered aloud why oil was still spewing." BP engineers had to explain that oil was still coming from vents that "would be closed very slowly to ensure that mounting pressure would not force the cap off."

Even now, Mr. Obama looks like a spectator, albeit an angry one, barking at White House aides to "plug the damn hole" (now that's a good idea no one has thought of) and telling NBC's Matt Lauer he's in search of an "ass to kick."

But the main political behind that's being kicked is Mr. Obama's. The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll says Americans give the federal government a 69% negative rating for its handling of the spill, compared to a 62% negative rating for Washington's handling of Katrina in August 2005.

Speaking of Kicking Ass, Obama now has his own Kick Ass Action Hero theme.

These guys did that clip.

Thanks to dang straights for that last one.

Is the MFM Really Afraid of Political Violence From the Right, Or Is It Just Another Negative Political Attack?
— Ace

Here's the set-up, Chris Matthews' "documentary" on the Tea Party. As they say at Hot Air, What could go wrong?

Now let me concede that if Chris Matthews and the MFM genuinely feared the Tea Party would start gunning them down on the street and blowing up federal buildings, then I would concede they had a good-faith basis for their continued slanders. At least in their own minds, these would not be slanders, but rather well-founded criticisms expressing bona-fide fears.

But is that true? Do they really fear violence by the Tea Party?

No, they do not. How do I know this? I know it because they slander the Tea Party every single day.

And I know exactly what the MFM does when it genuinely fears their precious lives may be in danger from a violent terrorist movement expressly devoted to rolling back the modern secular liberal state.

When they really are afraid, they keep as quiet as churchmice.

When they're all mouthy, tossing out demeaning disses like a rapper with Tourette's and a grudge, this means, then, they're not actually afraid at all.

Which makes them liars, and bullies, and hypocrites, in addition to being what they have already self-confessed to being, cowards.

College Football Stuff (if you care)
— Dave in Texas

Everyone expected Nebraska to make the first move and accept an invitation to join the Big 10, but CU beat them to it, announcing they've accepted an invitation to join the Pac 10.

I'm sure there will be lots more announcements very soon. Hubbub all week was that the Pac-10 was looking to add Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado, and the Big 10 was after Nebraska and Missouri.

Of course this is all about money, but then again money ain't so bad. I never saw a problem having money made worse.

OH. Except maybe this. (tip from Gabe)

SC Sacred Honor Watch: GOP Runoff And Democrat Senate Edition
— DrewM

First, the GOP Governor's race that won't end.

Gresham "22% of the Vote" Barrett decides to go for the rarely performed "Triple Passive Aggressive Smear" by having the actor in his campaign spot call him a "Christian Family man who won't embarrass us".

Take a shot at the supposed Sikh Conspiracy? Check

Play up the unsubstantiated rumors of Nikki Haley's infidelities? Check

Put the charges in someone elses mouth? Check

And he sticks the landing!

Seriously, this guy can not go away fast enough.

Meanwhile on the Democratic side, they are running away as fast as they can from their unemployed, unknown and under investigation for sex crimes candidate for the Senate.

Sen. Bob Menendez of NJ, the head of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee says, "South Carolina? Never heard of it."

But South Carolina Man of Sacred Honor, Democratic House Whip Jim Clyburn says he knows exactly how this guy won a Democratic primary...the Republicans did it.

"There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary," Clyburn said during an appearance on the liberal Bill Press radio show. "I don't know if he was a Republican plant; he was someone's plant."

The third-ranking House Democrat said he found it strange that Greene, a relative unknown prior to Tuesday, was able to produce the money to register and run for Senate despite being unemployed.

Greene allegedly tried to pay the registration fee in cash, and Clyburn said he wondered whether an outside party might have funded both the fee and Greene's campaign, in violation of federal campaign finance laws.

I know it's still early, but South Carolina has a healthy lead in the race to be the state with the most bizarre politics this year.

Rasmussen: Angle 50-Reid 39
— DrewM

It's one poll and way to early to start popping the champagne but a very good start for Angle.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Nevada, taken Wednesday night, shows Angle earning 50% support while Reid picks up 39% of the vote. Five percent (5%) like some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

A month ago, Angle led Reid 48% to 40% but ran poorest against the incumbent of the three GOP primary hopefuls as she has for months.

Reid will try to portray Angle, a Christian conservative who drew heavily on Tea Party support for her win, as unacceptable to the state. Still, the race for now continues to be about the incumbent, who earned 61% of the vote when he was reelected in 2004 but whose support in this election cycle against any Republican candidate has never risen above the low 40s.

There are still some kinks for Angle to work out.

As Jim Geraghty notes, right now it seems the only thing you can do on her website is donate. I think there might be some people who would like to know a little about her and where she stands before they pony up.

Democrats and the MFM, but I repeat myself, are going to go after her on the Scientology sponsored drug rehap program and anything else they can find.

Fortunately, there's plenty to go after Harry Reid about. The National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee is first up with their "Wrong Way Reid" site.

Thursday Financial Briefing
— Monty

Er, about that big stock rally on Tuesday...

As nicknames go, the Blog Prophet of Euro Zone Doom has one of the better ones. I've been called many things but I've never been called a prophet. I also find it neat that a self-taught fellow of 61 can make a name for himself purely on the strength of his insight.

Colleges have gone from being instutions of higher learning to being clip joints run by confidence men. (Via Insty.) I hereby pledge that I will never accept a dime from the needy young ladies who come to me for instruction and life-lessons at Monty's Home for Wayward Pole-Dancers. I'm a giver, not a taker.

The great fiscal Götterdämmerung caused by the retirement of the Baby Boomers is well underway. Pretty soon each worker will have his very own elderly person to support. For most wage-earners under the age of 55 or so, "retirement" is going to seem like a rather quaint and old-fashioned concept, like detachable collars, fiscal probity, and sexual modesty.

China will not save us. I've been saying for a long, long time that China's economy is a big fat lie. People keep forgetting that China is still ruled by Communists. It will all end in tears.

Are the feds going to try to nationalize private pensions? To a certain extent that's already happened given the role of the PBGC, but on the other hand the PBGC is bankrupt.

The World Bank noted that the Euro crisis will restrict growth across the continent. British Consulting Detective and social gadfly Mr. Sherlock Holmes, when reached for comment, remarked that he'd considered the whole idea a complete cock-up right from the start. "They should have hired me in the Case of the Missing Financial Rationale for the Euro," he said. When this reporter pointed out that England itself was in dire financial straits, Mr. Holmes mumbled something about being late to a hanging and hurried off.

Stateside, Ben Bernanke assured everyone that the European financial crisis would only have a modest impact on the US hours before the Dow Jones Industrial Average dived on concerns over the European financial crisis.

In the same session, when asked about the recent resurgence of gold, Bernanke responded: "Gold? What is this 'gold' you speak of? It sounds like some made-up word. Gold. It sounds like something an alien would call his dong. Do not mock my Gold, puny Hu-Man! In fact, I think I remember Ron Paul saying that to me one time. I wonder now if he was coming on to me or something. It's kind of freaking me out now that I think about it."

I take my recessions like I take my vanilla cones from Baskin-Robbins: double-dip!

In other news, California is still boned.

Overnight Open Thread
— Maetenloch

Good evening and happy Hump Day all.

Is This Where Obama Got His New BP Oil Spill Strategy?

Maybe. And he could do a lot worse than following the advice of Fry and Laurie. Maybe he could also take the answer from their Bob Dylan song or their generic American anthem.

Really is there any problem that they don't have a solution for?

Genital fungus you say - nope they have that one covered as well.

NHL Final Game 6
— DrewM

Blackhawks can close out the Flyers tonight on NBC.

I originally wanted this to go to game 7 but I'm not going to be around Friday night, so I hope the Blackhawks take care of business tonight (yes, it's all about me).

Unfortunately, I think the Flyers will bounce back tonight and force a Game 7 back in Chicago on Friday. It's not as if they haven't had their backs against the wall in these playoffs and both teams have managed to hold serve at home thus far.

Oh, if you're wondering how to pronounce Blackhawk Dustin Byfuglien's last name, watch this video.

And once again, from puking on little girls to little kids drinking beer, Philadelphia fans show their class... more...
