Steyn on the nonsense of the "peer-review" claim.

The most amusing part of Ed Begley Jr's spat with Stuart Varney was his grey brow-forward, in your face insistence that "peer-review" is what makes it Science!™ and not mucky opinion-nonsense from all the deniers.

He yelled this at Varney while the world was reading the email exchanges from the "scientists" who for years have been doing their best to hide their work and selecting their peer reviewers. And selecting their willing media acolytes (NYT link, polar bear on slushy ice photo, no charge).

It ain't rocket science for me to take a cheap shot at an idiot celeb whose awareness of current events makes him sound like an idiot. And it ain't rocket science (but it is a cheap blog post) for me to mock it.

I'm just giving you an 81mm round to hand back to your second cousins this weekend when they claim "scientists" are checking all the facts ma'am. The "scientists" are in the bag. Feel free to express that point. It bears repeating to the claim of "the science is settled".

The "science" had owner obligations, and unethically cooked the books to maximize investor returns.

The whole email exchange at this link is worth a read. It starts out at the bottom with our illustrious "science czar" John Holdren being CC:'d on the Sulphur Dioxide "plume stacks" cooling scheme that has been floating around, then towards the top morphs into Phil Jones wishing the damn cooling would just quit. Good stuff.

On November 24th, 2009, actress, model, and AoSHQ friend Candace Kita helped organize a special Thanksgiving treat for our men and women in uniform at the Bob Hope USO Center in Los Angeles. It leads to a California-style budget disaster:

Without a budget deal, New York will be left with just $36 million in the bank by the end of December, according to current projections. And the money will last that long, officials say, only if the state chooses to fully exhaust its emergency reserves by tapping several billion dollarsÂ’ worth of temporary loans from its rainy-day fund and short-term investments.

For weeks, Gov. David A. Paterson has invoked the shrinking amount of available cash in an effort to provoke the Legislature to deal with the stateÂ’s $3.2 billion budget deficit. So far, the specter of such dire fiscal outcomes has been greeted with what amount to legislative shrugs, chiefly in the recalcitrant State Senate.

The NYTimes author fatuously suggests that "New York is by no means California" before going on to describe New York's dropping credit rating, projected inability to make payments, education cuts, and tax hikes.

Uh huh. Not like California at all. By no means. Keep tellin' yourself that.
