GOP Might Need a Good Housecleaning on the Consultant Level
— Ace

That headline is extremely deceptive.

The word "might" should not be there.

This is scandalous.

But everyone got a huge pile of money, right? That's all that matters. That's all that matters.

Thanks to @gabrielmalor

Ron Swanson and the Arrested Development of Masculinity
— Ace

I don't know if I buy this, but, it has three points in its favor:

1) It's about an interesting subject.

2) It references a Popular Fictional Character.

3) I'm eating.

Hagel Cloture Vote Fails, 57-43
— Ace

Did Hagel's water addiction sink him?
via @billhobbs

Update: Fails by one. My previous 57-43 was in error.

Old News:Fox still has it underway.

I don't really understand how we know it's failed when people are still voting but then again I don't understand a lot of things, like Ashley Judd's visage bouffi.

"Failing cloture" would mean Hagel is blocked, as the vote cannot then proceed to an actual vote on the merits.

I'm gaining confidence in this report because McCain is talking all cocky and pointing out the Democrats filibustered John Tower in 1989.

McCain adds this is just a delay-- they want more information on Hagel, and want the time to receive it. He says he expects to vote for cloture after they get more information (and after they come back from break).

However, given the report that the GOP does not want to be seen as "playing politics," his claim that he "expects" to vote for cloture may be, what's the word, not true.

McConnell Leads Judd by 9 in first KY-Senate Poll
— CAC

Per Harper polling, which found McConnell at a generic 60% re-elect number and leading a generic Democrat by eleven points. With only a 35% approval rating state wide for Judd, Kentucky Democrats would probably do better with someone less liberal, vocal, and perhaps not as puffy.

Hagel Cloture Vote Underway; Senate Source Says He Thinks They Have the Votes to Block
— Ace

Via @robertcostaNRO, a source says Republicans think they have the votes to block, but they don't want to say so, because, OBSTRUCTIONISM! (and WATER!).

We'll see in a minute.

Kentucky Democrats Fret: Is the Public Ready for the Nation's First Puffy-Face Senator?
— Ace

Testing the limits of tolerance.

Actress Ashley JuddÂ’s movement toward a Senate run against Minority Leader Mitch McConnell makes Democrats in Washington, D.C., happy.

But back in Kentucky, for many Bluegrass State Democrats, a potential Judd run brings a different feeling: heartburn.

“If she runs, I think that it would be a catastrophe for a lot of downballot races in Kentucky,” said Jimmy Cauley, a longtime Kentucky Democratic strategist who doesn’t believe Judd can win a general election. Among Democratic state legislators, he said, “there is significant worry about Ashley being on the ballot. And what the hell is going on with her face?"

I added that last bit, but I think the subtext of his words was pretty clear.

89-Year-Old Frank Lautenberg Finally Retiring, Will Not Run in 2014

Opening the seat for Cory Booker.

A nice smooth transfer of noble power. The Signet Ring and Senatorial Scepter will be formally transferred in the court of St. John's sometime during the Hallows.

"I Always Intended to Pay It Back:" Former San Diego Mayor of Unknown Partisan Affiliation Vows to Repay $1 Billion in Gambling Losses
— Ace

She might have to open up an Etsy shop to pay this down.

Correction: The headline was misleading. Now, it is less misleading, due to be being vaguely phrased. Apparently the "$1 billion" is the cumulative figure of money she put at stake in gambling over a course of years-- not all of it was lost. She won a little less than $1 billion; she lost a little more than $1 billion.

I guess that makes more sense.

Still: A billion dollars in wagers.

“I always intended to pay it back,” she said. “and I still intend to pay it back. In that period of time I lost my husband, three siblings, best friends.”

Obviously she's just on a cold streak. I recommend she gets into a casino post-haste -- they're just holding her money for her. It's time to collect.

I've got two words for her: Twenty. Two.

In related news, Barack Obama has bet $7 trillion on the proposition that dog parks and bee-sex studies are just the Brawndo the economy craves.

Hagel Cloture Vote Scheduled for 4:15
— Ace

@ChadPergram

Senate to vote on cloture for Hagel at 4:15 pm et. Needs 60 votes.

I don't know if this means Hagel has the votes -- or if Reid is just calling our bluff (and may un-call that bluff it if turns out there aren't enough votes for cloture).

All we do know at this time is that Jews control the State Department. Per our would-be future Secretary of Defense, of course.

When Will Conservatives Unite to Insist That NBC Pay the Maddow Sanction?
— Ace

I still don't get why Limbaugh, Levin, and Hannity don't push this idea: Let's cash NBC out.

Kill the Affiliates, Too: The former Mayor of San Diego stole millions from the city a charitable foundation to feed her gambling addiction; NBC San Diego can't identify her party.

I bet you can guess, eh?
