Buzz Bissinger: My Liberal Reporter Friends Called Me a Traitor For Endorsing Romney
— Ace

Buzz Bissinger is a former reporter (with the Philly Inquirer) and "Friday Night Lights" author. He got a lot of liberal static online for endorsing Romney, but the most telling static came from his liberal reporter buddies.

"ThereÂ’s no doubt in my mind that thereÂ’s a definite liberal bias in the mainstream mediaÂ…You are simply not expected, when youÂ’re a journalist and a writer, to endorse a Republican. And donÂ’t tell me it does not seep into the coverage. I mean, you look at The New York Times, you look at their editorial today on Afghanistan, you would feel itÂ’s the RepublicansÂ’ fault weÂ’re still there, but thatÂ’s ObamaÂ’s decision. It does seep in, and I know because as a journalist it seeped in when I wrote for the Philadelphia Enquirer."

Howie Kurtz doesn't like that at all, and insists that he doesn't know the politics of a bunch of liberal reporters who are obviously liberal.

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney just might be the man who can save America, says... Piers Morgan.

And... Duran Duran's John Taylor says Biden's a "dick," likes Ryan.

What?

I've never seen so many fact checkers in the media after last night. Maybe we getting wise to the lies.. or creative exagerrations—
John Taylor (@thisistherealJT) October 12, 2012

In response to a question about Ryan's Ayn Rand phase, Taylor says:

had one once, too.. it's like Dali. You gotta go thru it

Happy Monday.

President Obama is laying low in Virginia for debate prep today, which campaign aids say he's taking very seriously. Meanwhile, both campaigns are peeved with CNN's Candy Crowley, who seems to have an incorrectly expansive view of her role in Tuesday's debate.

The UK's Met Office has released temperature data that shows that there's been a 16 year pause in global warming. the pause in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996.

Overnight Open Thread (10-14-2012)
— Maetenloch

I'm busy with Phase 2 of the move to the bunker. So tonight's ONT will be succinct.

Happy Birthday Margaret Thatcher

She turned 87 yesterday. I was but a wee lad when she took office in 1979 but I do recall the feeling - even in the US - that her election might mark the end of the long free-fall of the 70's. And in 1980 that proved to be true.

Oh and some Iron Lady trivia -  do you know what her profession was before going into politics?

Today in History, October 14, 1912: Teddy Roosevelt Takes a Bullet
— Dave in Texas

Yeah, he shouldn't a gone all Bull Moose Party. But he still took a bullet.

That counts for something.

on October 14, 1912, Theodore Roosevelt was shot in Milwaukee by would-be assassin John Schrank, who had stalked him for three weeks through eight states. With a .38-calibre bullet still in his chest and blood soaking through his clothes, Roosevelt nevertheless addressed an audience of 9,000-12,000 people in Milwaukee Auditorium for 80 minutes, joking at one point that "It takes more than one bullet to kill a Bull Moose."

Nerds in Vegas? Srsly?-Gaming Thread!
— Gang of Gaming Morons!

Good afternoon my friends! I was told by Radish to not type so loud, so this will be a subdued thread. (No not really)

I made it back from Eve Vegas, wallet a little lighter, brain a little cloudier, and liver further on the brink. AKA the Moron Lifestyle. I also got to attend some fun lectures by Game Devs and Players alike. All in All I had an absolute blast, and helped fund the local economy. Time to eat mac and cheese to save back up.

Also, since the fucking hotel only had CNN, holy hell they are terrible. I'd rather watch the hacks on MSLSD any day of the week than the idiots on that channel. And my oh my the political adds.

More below the fold

I got busted rerunning this one (I still like it), but ok here

ALSO, Felix Baumgartner's jump from way the eff up there, live streamed here. I admit I'm not up on this, trying to remember some physics and terminal velocity and all, they keep talking about him breaking the sound barrier. Is that possible in free fall?

I don't know. I was told there would be no physics in this blog while the Cowboys get their asses kicked by the Ravens. more...
