Mitt Romney and Disrespectin' the Garbage Man
Well based on the ad made by the AFSCME we're supposed to believe that Romney doesn't understand the lives of garbage collectors (and probably despises them too) because he never hugged or fist bumped the guy who used to pick up his trash in CA.
So the new narrative is that he's just a sheltered patrician who wouldn't know a 65-gallon PDE bin from a Boss Corinthian leather tissue box.
But clearly the AFSCME never read Romney's own autobiography (p. 251) where he talks about WORKING AS A GARBAGE MAN as NRO's Charles Cooke pointed out:
During my campaign for governor, I decided to spend a day every few weeks doing the jobs of other people in Massachusetts. Among other jobs, I cooked sausages at Fenway Park, worked on asphalt paving crew, stacked bales of hay on a farm, volunteered in an emergency room, served food at a nursing home, and worked as a child-care assistant. I'm often asked which was the hardest job - it's child care, by a mile.
One day I gathered trash as a garbage collector. I stood on that little platform at the back of the truck, holding on as the driver navigated his way through the narrow streets of Boston. As we pulled up to traffic lights, I noticed that the shoppers and businesspeople who were standing only a few feet from me didn't even see me. It was as if I was invisible. Perhaps it was because a lot of us don't think garbage men are worthy of notice; I disagree - anyone who works that hard deserves our respect. - I wasn't a particularly good garbage collector: at one point, after filling the trough at the back of the truck, I pulled the wrong hydraulic lever. Instead of pushing the load into the truck, I dumped it onto the street. Maybe the suits didn't notice me, but the guys at the construction site sure did: "Nice job, Mitt," they called. "Why don't you find an easier job?" And then they good-naturedly came down and helped me pick up my mess.
And now you know....the rest of the story.
And what a filthy sack of scumbag liars the AFSCME are.

— Ace On Hannity, at 9 PM. It'll also be posted at the Daily Caller at 9.
But I'll watch the tv show.
My middle-of-the-road guess: It's been overhyped. Drudge tends to overhype. But then, there's probably something here.

— CAC Miss me, ya'll?
National Journal's latest D+7 poll finds Romney winning indies, all age groups besides the utes, men, and those with college degrees.
You can guess whom the President is still chummy with.
Yeah, this election is totally over already.

— Ace As Hot Air said: Moving goalposts.
Now that Obama has failed (intentionally) a promise he'd made -- that he would not permit Iran to have a bomb -- we're now going to just talk about preventing them from getting an accurate long-range missile.
What a joke.
A missile isn't the big fear -- you can see exactly which country fired it.
The bomb is the problem. The bomb, hidden inside the hold of a ship with a neutral country's flag. Delivered into a port, and detonated, before it's inspected.

— Ace Praise the Saints I can finally talk about polls again.
Do you know how hard it is on Poor Me if I actually have to work instead of just putting up poll posts?
It'd break your heart if you knew. I spare you these pains of mine, because I bear my grim burdens alone, with silent grace.
Obama edges Romney by three points among likely voters, 49 percent to 46 percent, which is within the surveyÂ’s margin of error. ObamaÂ’s lead was five points, 50 percent to 45 percent, in the NBC/WSJ poll released two weeks ago, following the political conventions.
It's margin of error.
Just To Point Something Out Here... Check Question 7 in the questionnaire. (You have to go to my link then click on their link; I'm having a problem copying the link to the PDF.) As far as I can tell, this is the only part of it that serves as a Likely Voter Screen. All it asks is for people to rate their interest in the election, from 1-10.
Now, Gallup's Likely Voter Screen (which isn't being used yet) is more involved. It asks if people voted last time and the time before that; if they know where their local polling place is; and then it asks about interest in the election and self-rated likelihood of voting.
Another Voter Screen question I've seen is this: "Did you plan on voting in the the last election, but found that something came up which prevented you from voting?" That question is worded like that, I believe, to provide the respondent with an excuse for not voting, to lessen the social pressure to just say "Yes I vote in each and every election just like a good civic-minded citizen." It's trying to get the truth by giving them an out.
All this one asks is self-rated interest in the election -- and people lie about things like this. Few wish to say "I'm not civic minded."
All these guys seem to do is to ask people if, in their own estimation, they are well-informed and dutiful citizens.

— Ace Buzzfeed thinks it's found the tape -- at least an edited version of it.
Buzzfeed believes The Tape is an old one which has been known about since 2007:
And then I've got to give a special shout out to my Pastor. The guy who puts up with me, counsels me, listens to my wife complain about me. He's a friend and a great leader not just in Chicago but all across the country, so please everybody give an extraordinary welcome to my pastor Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr., Trinity United Church of Christ.Where's he at? There he is. That's him, that's him right there.
You wearing a suit today, right?
It might be the tape. But the edits indicate there was stuff we didn't see.
But based on this part -- yes, he's doing a mild black accent.
I sure hope there's more to it than this.
Based on the Screencap at Drudge... this is in fact the video-- the podium and nearby drumkit are identical.
"Unscrubbed:" Daily Caller now saying they'll be releasing the unscrubbed version of the video -- confirming (as if it needs confirming) that this is The Tape, but we've only seen a "scrubbed" version of it.

— Ace THE ACCENT... THE ANGER... THE ACCUSATIONS...
SHOUT-OUT TO REV. WRIGHT, WHO'S IN THE AUDIENCE

FOXNEWS TONIGHT:
OBAMA'S OTHER RACE SPEECH
I haven't been this jazzed about Drudge since 1998.
Update: The Daily Caller has announced it will publish itself at 9PM. So if Hannity teases it too long, check there.
[Update JohnE.]
Many are noting the significance of the date of release being the eve of the debate. I think there's another angle.
Hint: What pivotal swing state started early voting today? more...

Plus -- The Tape Hurts Obama?
— Ace He says this, intentionally (not a verbal typo), arguing against Romney's plans to increase taxes on the middle class which the Obama Campaign invented.
This is a nothing post. Okay, here's something:
The tape isn't damaging to us, it seems. John Nolte tweets:
Hannity has said the video is from the Daily Caller and the network is Fox. So you can all relax. Still guessing Rev. Wright.
I had heard the DC had it, and many people guessed the video Hannity was talking up was the same video. That seems confirmed, now.
So... Popcorn?
@morgenr has cranked up his SuperGoogle and wonders if the tape Drudge is talking about is the long-rumored tape of Michelle Obama calling whiteys, um, "whiteys."
I don't even remember forgetting that rumor. Anyway, that claim was made in 2008, and one could imagine they're talking about an old tape from a couple of years before.
This is complete speculation, of course. Incidentally, I've just heard from someone that story turned out to be wrong -- Michelle Obama said "Why'd he" not "Whitey."
Given the high rate of partisans misunderstanding words and then trying to crank up a major issue about it -- something we see again and again and again -- that sounds plausible to me.
So, probably not that.
That's why we call 'em "guesses."
From a Commenter: Hannity tips that it is Obama himself on the tape. I didn't hear it myself, but I'm in "push out anything" mode.
