Part Of This Kind Of Jumps Out At Ya
— LauraW

So to speak.
Lawsuit against Arby's.

13. Defendants owed Plaintiffs the highest duty of care to protect them against dangerous conditions of which Arby's knew or should have known.

---------snip----------------

Such dangers at the subject property include, without limitation: (a) Plumbing and/or water heating systems that violate the applicable Building, Mechanical and Plumbing code, (b) Urinal that shoots jets of scalding steam, (c) Failure to properly repair a known dangerous urinal and/or plumbing issue.

It seems this fellow got a steamed winkie.
Very sad.
Just awful.
Ointments don't help with the nightmares.

Art Thread- ATTENTION ALL L.A. AREA MORONS: IT IS TIME
— CAC

On June 24th, Levitated Mass, Los Angeles' new granite ruler, opens to the public at LACMA.
Covered earlier here while it was on tour, the hour has come.

IF you lived along the route the gigantic rock traveled along (from Riverside County out through San Bernardino, Orange, and finally Los Angeles), you get free admission to LACMA through July 1st, so check for your zip code before going.

I shall make my pilgrammage, gorging on a BK Bacon Sundae, in my finest plaid. You better believe there will be pictures. Unfortunately, the better half hates crowds so opening day is a no-go. I'm bummed about that- we'll miss the ritualistic sacrifice of a random Angeleno to appease our new lord.

LACMA is on Wilshire Blvd across from the Peterson Auto Museum, which has the best hobo-free parking garage around and frees you from the inevitable $600 street parking ticket.

Unless, of course, you think standing under a gigantic rock is silly. Ridiculous. A waste of time.

Its ok. We know you're afraid of its awesome power. Pacifiers and diapers for you then.

Happy Thursday.

Today is a SCOTUS decision day, and the odds that either Obamacare or USvAZ are decided are, well, better than on Monday. SCOTUSblog has a great plain-English description of the remaining cases. Whatever they do, that goes down at 10AM Eastern.

#AOSHQDD : Interim Presidential Race Forecast, Part One
— CAC

Post-Wisconsin I've been working with JohnE on expanding the Decision Desk to 50-state coverage. In the meantime, I've kept my eye on polling data and will begin to reveal the current projection of the Presidential race.
Kicking that off is a map showing the "solid" states, those which even in a landslide election will stay loyal to the designated party.

In this category, Romney leads 160 to Obama's 131 electoral votes, a total of 291 EV's not contested in the race in any conceivable scenario. How do the remaining states fall? I'll roll those subsequent maps out in coming threads.

But of course: Sen. McCain Wants Federal Regulations for Boxing

My friends if you enjoyed his fine work in cap-and-trade and McCain-Feingold, then you'll love this.

Now McCain may have somehow finagled a lifetime 89 ACU rating but in his gut he's all nanny-stater:

Arguing the sweet science is "plagued" by "fraud, corruption and ineffective regulation," Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is proposing a United States Boxing Commission with the power to determine who judges and referees major fights.

McCain co-introduced the legislation Monday with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (both men were amateur boxers in their younger years). The duo's move was spurred by Timothy Bradley's controversial win over Manny Pacquiao earlier this month in Las Vegas. Reid, who represents the boxing mecca of Nevada, said last week he believed Pacquiao should've won the fight, an opinion echoed by pundits. The promoter who represents both fighters said the "outlandish" decision represented "a death knell for the sport."

"Professional boxing remains the only major sport in the United States that does not have a strong, centralized association, league or other regulatory body to establish and enforce uniform rules and practices," McCain said in a Senate floor speech introducing the legislation.
Call me cynical but I'm wondering exactly how much Dingy Harry and The Maverick lost on that fight.

Obama: Clearly, we need to hold more fundraisers
— Slublog

In the red, or hitting the panic button?

President Barack Obama's campaign spent more than it took in over the month of May despite his frenetic fundraising schedule, leaving the massive operation with just shy of $110 million dollars cash on hand against $115 million one month earlier.

The embattled incumbent scooped up a hair over $39 million dollars but spent nearly $44.6 million, according to a formal filing with the Federal Election Commission. A more detailed breakdown can be found here.

As JammieWF notes, the campaign that wildly outspent the GOP in 2008 is using this as an opportunity to play the victim card and whine about conservative Super PACs again:

WAAAAAAHHHHH.jpg

This is bad because conservative Super PAC money is a threat to democracy! Negative ads should never be paid for by third-party donors with legal donations. Democracy can only survive when negative ads are purchased with unverified credit card donations, some of which may have illegally come from non-citizens.

Aside from enjoying the schadenbonery goodness of this, there are two things we can take away from the story: 1) Obama is now having to build and maintain a large paid network this year, meaning he's spending money for people to do work that was done willingly by enthusiastic volunteers four years ago and 2) The Obama campaign is much more worried about fundraising than they're letting on and feel the need to instill some panic into their donor base this early. Either way, this news and the Obama campaign response is another sign that this isn't 2008 and Mitt Romney is no John McCain.

Racist Republicans Once Again Disrespect America's First Black President
— DrewM

I may have gotten a few details wrong in that headline. It seems all the racists (and what else would one call people so outrageously disrespectful of Obama?) are....wait for it....Democrats.

Vulnerable Democrats looking to distance themselves from President Obama have found an easy way to bolster their independent bona fides: just skip Obama's big party.

At least half a dozen Democratic officials have said in recent days that they won't attend the Democratic National Convention this September in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the president will formally receive the party's nomination for a second term. The latest: New York Democratic Reps. Bill Owens and Kathy Hochul, both of whom won special elections in recent years – in 2009 and 2011, respectively – that were heralded by party leaders.

...

This comes on the heels of Pennsylvania Rep. Mark Critz saying he'd opt out, and a trio of West Virginia Democrats — Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, Sen. Joe Manchin and Rep. Nick Rahall — all doing the same. Even though most of the convention-skippers have claimed they'd simply rather spend time back home, the political undertones are clear. After all, these Democrats share one thing in common: They answer to a conservative-leaning electorate that, at best, views Obama with a great deal of skepticism.

Did any elected Democrats skip Clinton's second convention? How about Gore's in 2000 or Kerry's in 2004?

Smells like out and out racism to me. I'm sure the like of Tommy Christopher and Chris Matthews will be all over it. Any. Minute. Now.
