— Ace Michelle Obama introduced the films for best picture, then delivered the winner's name, from the price-waterhouse envelope.
The winner was Argo, a movie which the screenwriter made a point to say was about using peaceful options to solve problems. It smells an awful lot like the Obamas knew ahead of time that a useful movie might win.
(By the way it's a good movie. But that's irrelevant here.)
So, we will simply never be permitted to escape the Obama's. They aim to be omnipresent, sharing the spotlight with any positive news or positive message.

Still travelling in the Sunshine state. Probably only hours until I'm finally photographed and fingerprinted at the local sheriff's office. For my FL non-resident CCW of course. It was harder than I expected finding a hobo with 5 good fingers and matching skin tone so be sure and plan ahead.

— Open Blogger For those morons with the laminated AOSHQ man cards, this Asahi Super Dry beer of a post with cut roll is for you. We are serving it (mostly) Oscar free coupled with some good in lieu of Oscar watching recommendations. For we understand that watching celebrities gush all over themselves, their accountants, line producers, a guy named Jim and the Craft services truck mechanic... gets a wee bit long in the tooth.
We are givers here baby.
So for a complete review of what I am watching in lieu of Oscar, clickery below the foldery. more...

— Open Blogger The Horde just loves its shots at New York City, and most of them are damned close to the mark. Bloomberg is a hectoring ass whose elitism oozes uncontrollably from his every orifice whenever he speaks. Traffic, crime (not nearly as bad as most of you think), pomposity (worse than you thinkÂ…if thatÂ’s possible), etc., are all legitimate targets.

— andy Boycotts and Law Enforcement
'An NC Gun Blog' has a good list of companies refusing to sell to New York law enforcement agencies. The list continues to grow, but we found our first bad apple this week.
Armalite is dead to me. Bob Owens explains why:
... Armalite is trying to play both ends against the middle. They want to say they are on-board with the boycott (sort of) to placate gun owners, but they arenÂ’t; theyÂ’re still going to continue selling to individual police officersÂ… just not to the departments.Armalite will sell to every individual officer in the department that wants an AR-15, but they wonÂ’t sell to the departmentÂ’s official purchasing agent. Wink-wink, nudge-nudge.
Westrom’s policy is condescending to gun owners, and is more insulting than a simple and honest, “no, we won’t stop sales to states that have made gun-owners second-class citizens.”
This is, quite simply, bullshit. Be sure to read the whole story on Bob's blog, and pay close attention to the letter from Armalite's ex-LEO CEO. What he's saying is, to borrow a line from Blade Runner, "You know the score, pal. You're not cop, you're little people!"
A state that doles out its citizens' subjects' civil rights based on a person's choice of profession (with a preference to those engaged in service to the state, natch) is an affront to liberty.

This Week's Wins In Blue States
The huge news of the week was that the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals let stand the ruling that requires Illinois to allow concealed carry.
A little closer to home, an "assault weapons" ban proposed in Westford, MA went down in flames.
Congratulations to the second amendment activists who led these charges.
Related: Oregon is pushing the worst bill seen to date after saying earlier in the week that the bill would be dropped.
Universal Background Checks
Tom Coburn claims the Senate isn't close to a deal. Prepare to be sold out on this one.

— Open Blogger Back in the 1930's there was a lot of experimentation going on with aircraft design. One of the weirdest, at the time, that ever flew was the Stipa-Caproni monoplane. Today we'd recognize it as a ducted-fan type and predecessor to the jet engine.

Even though it look odd and was very short coupled, it was apparently quite stable in the air.
Luigi Stipa was thinking outside the box. Sometimes the box's walls are just illusions of the human mind rather than real physical constraint. It may pay to punch the wall occasionally just make sure you're not just imagining it.
